What this is

TagYourCan is a plain-words guide to New York's current bin rules for residential buildings, plus the practical side of tagging a whole property's cans at once. It is a project of Primo Cans, a Brooklyn print shop that makes address labels for NYC bins. The shop sells labels; this site exists so buildings know what the city actually asks of them.

It is not a government site and does not speak for the city. The test for every page here: it should still deserve to exist even if Primo Cans sold nothing.

How pages are verified

Every rule, date and fine on this site comes from an official source - NYC 311 or the Department of Sanitation - and the source is linked at the bottom of the page it supports. Each page shows when it was last checked against those sources. If the city changes a rule, the page changes; if a page is stale, the date says so honestly.
